Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program

Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Greenville Health System (GHS). We hope you find it helpful in learning about our residency, which is part of Greenville Health System/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Programs.

Our four-year OB-GYN Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. For the past three years, our American Board of OB/GYN written exam pass rate has been 92%, while our oral exam pass rate is 100%!

This highly respected program strives to provide high-quality patient care in a supportive, team-oriented learning environment. Clinical rotations include inpatient and ambulatory obstetrics, inpatient and outpatient gynecology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and maternal-fetal medicine (including gynecologic oncology and urogynecology). In addition, residents rotate through the ER and critical care units, as well as specialty clinics, such as breast diseases and colposcopy. All rotations occur on Greenville Memorial Medical Campus.

GHS provides the greatest volume of OB/GYN care in the state. Also, residents take part in weekly grand rounds, morbidity and mortality conferences, evidence-based journal club, annual surgical skills lab and courses in minimally invasive surgery and ultrasound. The hospital system features a patient simulation center for hands-on learning as well.

At GHS, residents work closely with a faculty mentor to complete a research project. Such research has led to numerous publications and honors including for two consecutive years the Donald Richardson Award for Resident Research at the annual American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists meeting.

The system is located in upstate South Carolina, an area known for its natural beauty. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, scenic Greenville boasts a dynamic downtown, vibrant arts community and mild climate. With an enviable cost of living and a growing economy that offers employment opportunities for spouses, most residents can afford homes and build equity while they train.
