To improve the health of people in our communities in a caring, cost-effective manner. The Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center Department of OB/GYN provides high quality care for women of all ages needing gynecologic and obstetric care. The OB/GYN Center has been serving women in the Greenville community for 35 years. The practice is operated at a single site and provides prenatal care for more than 2,800 pregnant women annually, which makes it the single largest provider of prenatal care in South Carolina. The Center also offers primary care gynecology services to women. Prenatal care for low-risk women is provided by five nurse practitioners and two certified nurse-midwives. High-risk patients are seen by resident physicians under the supervision of maternal-fetal medicine attending faculty. The clinic has facilities on-site for laboratory testing, antenatal testing with non-stress test and limited ultrasound studies. Women requiring diagnostic prenatal ultrasound services are referred to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine practice. There is a full-time clinical nutrition specialist who provides diabetic education to our large population of patients with gestational diabetes. Telephone triage is available to patients 24 hours a day. In addition to the prenatal care services, enrollment counselors for
both South Carolina Medicaid and the WIC Program (Special Supplemental
Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) are available
on-site. Case management services are provided by three social workers,
one of whom has a special interest in pregnant teenagers. There are
also two full-time Spanish translators.
